Margaret Dorfman

Handmade Vegetable Parchment Bowls

Oakland, CA

$71.00

Nature illuminated. Beauty preserved.

Margaret Dorfman transforms fresh fruits and vegetables into sculptural works of art using traditional metalwork, protective glazing, and a process that reveals the natural patterns and colors of each variety. Her studio incorporates sustainable practices including reclaimed water, composting, and recyclable packaging.

Each bowl begins with fresh produce from a selection of more than 40 fruits and vegetables, transformed into translucent parchment over a 10–14 day process. Built slice by slice and hand-shaped into organic curves, the bowls preserve the jewel-like colors and intricate structures of the original produce without artificial dyes or chemicals. A sturdy, non-toxic glaze protects the finished surface, while the included LED candle brings the translucent parchment to life with a warm glow. Each bowl comes ready to gift in a matching taffeta drawstring bag with an information card and care card. Measuring approximately 3" across the base, flaring to about 7" in diameter and standing about 4–5" high, it makes a beautiful tabletop accent for a dining table, office credenza, or anywhere that could use a little natural wonder.
