notes to self was founded by Laura Schmidt, who came up with the idea on New Year's Day 2011 while watching the Kansas Flint Hills roll by with her feet on the car dashboard: positive affirmations on the toes of socks. Her athletic socks place phrases like I am strong where the wearer sees them first thing in the morning and at the end of the day, and socks are regularly donated to nonprofit organizations.
