2024 IEEE Big Data Conference - Washington, DC

The Request

IEEE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is a professional organization that hosts over 2000 conferences and events worldwide each year, curating innovative content across engineering and technology.  One such conference, Big Data was held in Washington D.C. in December. LoculGoods was asked to curate locally made gifts to present to all 850 attendees in addition to sourcing custom embroidered, eco-friendly jackets for key members of the IEEE organization.

The Results

In close collaboration with the client to align on objectives, timeline, and budget, LoculGoods curated a selection of Washington, DC-based makers celebrated for their craftsmanship and deep appreciation for local landmarks, history, and sense of place. Partnering with local graphic designer Sandy Beverly, LoculGoods commissioned two custom-designed buttons that added a vibrant touch to a screen-printed tote featuring the conference logo. Inside each bag, attendees found a sweet surprise—a box of caramels adorned with the Big Data logo and a beautifully illustrated DC skyline.

The Eco-Friendly Jacket

Beyond the 850 attendee gifts, LoculGoods was also tasked with sourcing eco-friendly jackets made from recycled materials and embroidered by a local, sustainability-focused business. That led to a collaboration with Crooked Monkey, a screen-printing company committed to responsible production. Together, they delivered Marmot Half-Zip Jackets crafted from Repreve®—a high-performance fleece made from recycled post-consumer waste, such as plastic bottles. The result: a sustainable, high-quality gift that left IEEE both impressed, well-dressed and aligned with its values.
